DIVERSE ABILITIES

At First Church, we believe every person is uniquely created in the image of God and deserves to belong, to be known, and to grow in their faith.

Sunday Morning Services

At our Stevenvsville Campus (5767 Red Arrow Hwy) we strive to create an atmosphere of welcome for everyone, including friends who have a disability. A joyful noise can be expressed in many ways, non-typical movements or sounds are not s a distraction, but a blessing! We need you here!

THE GATHERING

The Gathering is a worship service that is especially welcoming to people with extra needs and diverse abilities. But it’s more than a worship service. The Gathering is a loving community of friends.

In this space, individuals and families experience God’s love in a supportive environment. We worship together, share in meaningful teaching, and build genuine relationships where everyone is known, valued, and encouraged to grow in their faith.

Whether you attend with family, a caregiver, or on your own, you’ll find a place where differences are embraced and every person belongs.

Come give us a try!
We would love to welcome you and share this community with you.

CHILDREN WITH DIVERSE ABILITIES

At First Church, we believe every child is uniquely created in the image of God and deserves the opportunity to grow and belong. That’s why we offer our Buddy System—a one-on-one support program designed to help children with diverse abilities participate fully and comfortably in our Kids’ Ministry environments. Whether your child benefits from extra support, sensory accommodations, or a more structured routine, our trained buddies are here to walk alongside them with care and compassion.

In addition, we invite families to be part of The Gathering—a community group specifically for families of children with diverse abilities. The Gathering provides a space for encouragement, shared experiences, prayer, and practical support as we navigate the joys and challenges of life together.

To learn more or get connected, visit our Info Hub or contact our Kids’ Ministry team. We’re here to help every child and every family thrive.

CAPERNAUM

Capernaum is about creating spaces where teens and young adults with a disability can meet Jesus and grow in their faith. Together, we discover we are all made on purpose for a purpose.

Our desire is that all teens and young adults with disabilities would have a sense of belonging within Young Life. This happens through Capernaum clubs, specifically designed with our friends in mind.

OPEN GYM NIGHTS
OPEN GYM NIGHTS

During the winter months, we open the gym at our St. Joseph Campus to create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for kids with diverse abilities to move, play, and enjoy time together. Open Gym Night is all about joy, freedom, and belonging—giving kids a place where they can be themselves while staying active.

And it’s not just for kids. While the gym is open, parents and caregivers are invited to relax, connect, and build meaningful friendships with other families who understand the journey. It’s a space to share stories, encourage one another, and experience the comfort of community.

Upcoming dates will be announced soon.

For more information or to learn about upcoming Open Gym Nights, please call 269-983-1524.

CREATIVE COMPANIONS
Creative Companions is a growing, joy-filled community that brings adults with and without special needs together to learn, create, and build meaningful friendships. Founded by Terry Leyerle of our Eau Claire Campus, Creative Companions Crew meets weekly on Tuesday mornings as a social and vocational workshop where crew members make handcrafted items—like candles in repurposed Oui yogurt jars and other creative projects—that are sold locally at Rising Kites Coffee in Bridgman and Bound for Freedom in St. Joseph.
This incredible small business not only creates beautiful products, but also provides purpose, connection, and opportunity. You can support Creative Companions by purchasing their items, donating clean Oui yogurt jars or buttons, or following them on Instagram and Facebook @CreativeCompanions.
